The hotel is nice, the staff is friendly and helpful. The bar and restaurant are on the good, not great category. The rooms are ok, but the walls are thin and you can hear the TV in other rooms… Location is not awesome, convenient to get to the train station, but you are not close enough to simply go walling to the old city everyday, nor it is far enough to justify the 22€ flat rate of Uber or the long wait for a called cab.
The hotel itself is generally fine and clean, and the spa facilities (sauna and jacuzzi) were good. I was able to use the spa for over an hour, which I appreciated, although access required a separate key card, which was not entirely intuitive. The main issue is value for money. For the price charged, the overall experience did not fully meet expectations. Breakfast was quite chaotic. Several guests were complaining, but in my view the staff were simply understaffed and doing their best under difficult conditions. The problem seemed to be organization and capacity, not the attitude or effort of the employees. Overall, an okay stay, but clearly overpriced for what is offered. At a lower rate, expectations would be better aligned.
Had a good stay at the hotel, there were quite a few positives, the staff at reception and breakfast was lovely, helped get us taxis, get around Bari, resolved any questions on the stay and invoicing. The room was spacious and bathroom too, and the setting of the hotel is really nice, however it is a 30 mins walk to old Bari but 10 mins walk to the train. On the not so great parts of the stay, the room decor is dated for a 4* hotel, the spa is in real need of renovation (the pool was closed for the season), the Aircon in the room wasn't working though it was cold so didn't need it, the bathroom has no fan and the rooms aren't quiet or soundproof, could hear all folks talking in the hallway and rooms, also there were parties every night somewhere outside with very loud music that was impossible to block out from evening to early morning. All in all, it's probably one of the top choices in Bari, not many great hotels in the area, and the service is good and amenities are reasonable but not a 4* property.
Is it beautiful? Yes. Is it clean? Yes. Is the staff friendly and competent? Yes. BUT the devil is in the details - and being a 4 star hotel is about details. We were on the third floor and the wifi was just terrible. Kept dropping and reconnecting. This is not acceptable in 2025 in a Mercure. Moreover - how is it possible for all the paintings not to hang correctly off the walls? The shower was spacious, with great water pressure - but the glass pane has water traces that are not wiped off daily. The breakfast buffet has a great selection... But the cornetti offered were pitiful and the cappuccinos we were served were very poor given the fact this is an Italian hotel. Conclusion: If you want a nice, clean, restful place to sleep in in a beautiful setting, the Mercure is for you. But they need to work on getting everything right, and not just the big picture.
We recently stayed here for three nights. The room was well equipped and the bed was comfortable. The room was a good size. The staff were quite helpful and friendly. Had to pay extra for parking and breakfast (almost an additional €100)! The hotel is not particularly well located, not a great area compared to other accommodation, we we did enjoy the stay.
